There is a discussion taking place on the NRDC group page about donors to NRDC receiving massive amounts of junk mail shortly after donating. Is selling your donors information so that they can be bombarded with trash made from chopped down forests really serving your cause?
Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC)
Thanks for raising this issue, Brian. We do sometimes exchange names of members who have with other similarly-missioned groups. This is a standard procedure for environmental non-profits, and many members have no objection. We hope that our members are interested in the information they receive via direct mail, as polls have shown that direct mail is listed as one of the top ways that environmentalists learn about issues.
Many of our members choose only to receive updates and newsletters via email or our website. To promote this choice, NRDC includes a simple "opt out" form with every gift acknowledgment it sends. If you haven't seen such a form, please send a request for direct mail removal to membership@nrdc.org.
We sincerely appreciate the continued support and activism of our members and online activists as we do everything we can to continue our work on behalf of the environment.
To tackle broader issues with unsolicited mail, check out Catalog Choice: http://www.catalogchoice.org/
