 Communities know their health needs, the approaches that can work, and the community members themselves who can help see it all through. GlobeMed supports grassroots community-based health initiatives through chapter and organization partnerships. Seeing GlobeMed further the crucial but at times overlooked necessity of ground-up work has permanently affected the way I understand global health now, and how I will approach global health work in the future. This is honestly one of the single most important ideological-switches that has occured during my college career, and it is intimately tied to my work with GlobeMed and health partnerships.

i have had the incredible opportunity of visiting several of GlobeMed's partners in places like Rwanda and Detroit, Michigan.  at each of the organizations, the partnership with GlobeMed was deeply valued and you could see the impact that students had made through supporting small but vital health projects.  more noticeable though was the excitement of the partners in working with a community of undergraduate studnets, often half-way across the world.  it is through these global connections that both the students and the partners are strengthened and encouraged.  for the achievement of global health equity, the movement must be strongly rooted in a foundation of solidarity and compassion.  GlobeMed is playing a vital role in this movement through building these connections between communities of students with grassroots health organization around the world.

The most wonderful thing about GlobeMed is its so multifaceted and yet so united. I've had the privilege to both run a GlobeMed Chapter and serve on the Central Staff. While the two positions require very different responsibilities and come with slightly different perspectives of the organization, the people are very much the same. There is a familiar energy and passion that burns in every contributor of GlobeMed, staff or member. It’s something that fuels our group in a really amazing way. That energy forms the bonds of our network, creating a close community full of inspiring ideas and fresh voices. It’s a community I’m honored to be a part of and excited to see what we can all do, together.

Of the tens of groups present on university campuses, GlobeMed continues to stand out to me as one of the most promising student-driven organizations. As a past member of GlobeMed at Nortwestern University, and a student member of the Central Staff, I am continually impressed by the quality of the results our students produce through their globalhealthU curricula, fundraising Campaigns, and on-site work. Equally motivating is the excitement that all the people who make GlobeMed work - our students, donors, mentors, board and staff - continually bring to the table. With such a great combination of quality work and excitement I know that GlobeMed is helping move us toward a more sustainable and secure world.

Each day I go to the office, it's so incredible to know about the difference we are making in the lives of students across the country and communities around the world. Their stories are this organization's inspiration and keep our staff humming - whether its the hearing about how a student has organized a successful fundraiser or getting an email from a partner organization in a developing country telling us about the impact a chapter has made - each day serves as a reminder for the incredible people our organization has mobilized in the effort to improve global health. I can't imagine a more gratifying "job".
