North America's Premier Cinemaquatic Event!
The San Francisco Ocean Film Festival is a volunteer-driven 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to using film to improve public understanding of the environmental, social and cultural importance of marine ecosystems and to increase active participation in ocean conservation.
SFOFF is the premier venue in North America for ocean films and media and celebrates its 6th anniversary in 2009. For the past five years, we have produced an acclaimed festival of ocean-themed films from all over the world that are largely unavailable to the general public. Themes range from marine science and industry to wildlife, environment, coastal cultures, sports and adventure. SFOFF's programs are intended not only to entertain the audience but, more importantly, to educate and encourage active participation in ocean conservation.
Programs
SFOFF produces an annual film festival for the general public. Each festival screens 50+ films from around the world, with post-screening Q&A sessions with filmmakers and field experts.
SFOFF's dedicated Education Program runs concurrent to the festival and hosts over 1,000 middle and high school students to view inspirational and informative ocean films and interact with filmmakers and marine scientists.
SFOFF produces year-round entertaining and educational programs with community partners throughout the Bay Area.
History
This event was the first film festival of its kind in North America and the second in the world, behind a well-established ocean festival in Toulon, France that has drawn large audiences for nearly 40 years. The San Francisco Ocean Film Festival is now the premier venue in North America for filmmakers from around the world to screen their works featuring the magnificence of our oceans, threats to marine life, and the human connection with the marine environment.
