Green Wave House
The Green Wave House will be an earth-friendly, safe and loving home for children affected by the AIDS orphan pandemic. It will exemplify NextAid's commitment to showcasing natural building design in innovative and sustainable ways. As with NextAid's current projects, the Green Wave House's location selection will be a part of a partnership with a local organization fostering hope within their community. For their pilot project, NextAid partnered with Youth With a Vision in South Africa to construct an environmental community center where resources could be concentrated, aid efficiently distributed, and youth inspired to reach their potential. The NextAid Youth With A Vision Community Center includes a performance space, a micro-business facility, an energy efficient outdoor kitchen, a soccer field, organic gardens, a library, and offices. With construction near completion, NextAid is ready to start a new chapter and transition to multiple smaller scale projects, with the first being the Kawangware Street Children and Youth Project. This amazing organization is a locally created and managed business started by former street kids to provide positive opportunities to get kids off the streets in their community- a slum bordering Nairobi. The youth's primary income generating business is making silk-screened gift bags out of recycled paper and selling them to the safari tourism industry. Profits enable the participants to generate income for themselves and to take care of the community's orphaned or vulnerable children while providing a productive and positive environment for the youth. Groundbreaking on a new "green" workshop and multipurpose program facility to expand their operation and ultimately serve more youth is scheduled to begin in the coming months.
