NextAid, a Project of Hope for Africa

Mission

The effect of AIDS is being felt in every thread of society and is changing the planet for generations to come.  NextAid is a Los Angeles-based non-profit organization committed to developing and implementing innovative solutions to the challenges facing African children.  NextAid's mission is to promote community-driven, environmentally sustainable, and economically and socially empowering responses to the AIDS orphan pandemic.  NextAid collaborates with individuals, businesses, and nonprofits to produce creative, culturally-rich, awareness-raising projects and music events involving technology, the arts, public education projects, and volunteer opportunities.  Through grass-roots efforts, NextAid provides opportunities for concerned individuals to make a tangible difference in the lives of African children in need.

NEXTAID'S NEWEST PROJECTS

Kawangware Street Children and Youth Project

Former street kids started Kawangware Street Children and Youth Project (KSCYP) to provide positive opportunities for the children of Kawangware, a slum bordering Kenya's capital Nairobi. Locally managed, KSCYP strives to get youth off the streets and offers economic and performance activities.  The profits generated help support the youth workers' basic needs such as food, shelter, medical care and education, while also taking care of the community's orphaned and vulnerable children.  NextAid has joined forces with KSCYP by committing to seek funds for the construction of an eco-friendly, multipurpose facility for the project's micro-business.  Make a donation @ http://www.nextaid.org/donation.htm.

MUD Cosmetics & Red Rhino Orphanage Project

Red Rhino Orphanage Project (RROP) is a Kenya-based non-profit providing two children's houses in a poverty-stricken town located 25 miles southeast of Nairobi. Each of the timber-framed homes will provide long-term shelter, food and medical needs for 16 local orphans. The project also funds the children's educational pursuits, from elementary school through secondary and university or trade school.  Additionally, RROP sponsors the locally-run non-profit, Springs of Hope, a rescued baby home in the nearby town of Machakos.  Cosmetics company MUD is generously donating 100% of the sales of its limited-edition eye shadow palette to help fund construction.  By selling just 1,000 pieces, MUD will fund the completion of these two children's homes in Kenya. To support this great effort, please purchase a MUD eye shadow palette@ http://shop.mudshop.com/mud-cares-palette.

GoGogetters "Send a Child To School"

NextAid is working with the well-respected South African organization, loveLife, to be the beneficiary of our "Send a Child to School" campaign. goGogetters is a loveLife program to support the many grandmothers (gogos) who have been dedicating their old-age years to the wellbeing of orphans and vulnerable children. NextAid is raising funds for the schooling needs of some of the most vulnerable children who participate in the goGogetters program. All it takes is $75 to sponsor one child's education for an entire year. This donation will ensure that a child is equipped with a school uniform, shoes and school supplies. Our goal is to raise $10,000 by the end of 2009 in order to provide school supplies for the January school year. Help us meet and exceed this goal! To sponsor a child, please note "goGogetters when making a donation @ http://www.nextaid.org/donation.htm.

PILOT PROJECT

YWAV Community Center

NextAid partnered with Youth With a Vision to construct an environmental community center where resources could be concentrated, aid efficiently distributed, and youth inspired to reach their potential.  Groundbreaking on the Community Center took place in 2005 and marked the beginning of successful expansive efforts to provide care and outreach to orphaned and vulnerable children.  Now in its final year of construction, with a performance space, a micro-business facility, an energy efficient outdoor kitchen, a soccer field, organic gardens, a library, and offices already completed, NextAid has handed over management to YWAV's board and the community in the spirit of self-reliance.  The infrastructure, and technology that NextAid has helped develop and implement will enable YWAV to continue expanding its self-reliance and income-generating activities to benefit disadvantaged children.
