  1. Michelle Mahoney Election Day 2008

Driving from Corvallis, Oregon to Seattle, Washington on the day of the biggest election ever would have been a hopeless situation if I had not been able to find the NPR stations. I had to keep scanning as I drove a couple hundred miles, but heard the announcement of Obama as the next President as I pulled up to a drive-through window in Seattle. I let everyone inside know, and they cheered as well.

Thanks, NPR - the only other AM stations I was getting featured sports, Bible commentation, and Sean Hannity. I'm glad I had a sound alternative, and felt that, even though I had to drive most of the afternoon and evening, I could still be somewhat a part of that historical day.

  2. Heather Mansfield Without NPR...

I wouldn't listen to the radio at all or have any sense of how the world turns outside of the Bible Belt. The radio is terrible where I live... completely mass-marketed and lacking in style/substance... I listen to Internet radio in all cases except our local NPR affiliate in Springfield, MO for news and telling of stories. Without it, I would feel like I live in complete vacuum of culture.

Strange thing is so many people from both coasts have moved to my hometown... many feel like I do... and thankfully, things are changing. THANKS NPR... you've played a role in that!
