Established in 1970, National Public Radio (NPR) is the nation''s foremost producer and distributor of programming for the nation''s public radio system. NPR''s mission is to work in partnership with member stations to create a more informed public-one challenged and invigorated by a deeper understanding and appreciation of events, ideas and cultures. To accomplish our mission, NPR produces, acquires and distributes programming that meets the highest standards of public service in journalism and cultural expression. Programs
Every week, 25.5 million people tune in to NPR's signature programs including Morning Edition®, All Things Considered®, Car Talk®, Fresh Air(sm), Wait Wait...Don't Tell Me!®, Talk of the Nation®, and the NPR Newscasts. NPR produces and distributes 29 news, talk, music, and entertainment programs to 860 NPR stations across the nation. NPR also brings hourly newscasts, streaming audio, downloadable content, exclusive features, and more than ten years of archives to Internet users through NPR.org. With two channels on Sirius Satellite Radio; five high-definition multicast channels; NPR Worldwide, which is heard in more than 100 countries; and more than 650 podcasts, NPR is truly everywhere. NPR has been awarded several hundred honors, including a 2005 George Foster Peabody Award for outstanding coverage of the war in Iraq.
