Mission
The teachers and sponsors of the MusicLink Foundation believe that anyone who has musical potential should be given the opportunity to nurture this musical promise to its full extent. MusicLink programs link promising students in financial need with professional music teachers or musicians who provide ongoing scholarship instruction. MusicLink assists by coordinating the nomination process, recruiting teachers willing to contribute lessons, providing instruments, music materials, camp scholarships, and performance opportunities--working closely with business partners, sponsors and community donors.
Programs
The MusicLink Foundation has provided lessons to 2,600 students in over 40 states, with more than 1000 teachers serving the program nationwide. MusicLink teachers have donated 250,000 hours of instruction, equivalent to $4.8 million in scholarship donation. Our goal is to reach 7,500 students by the year 2010. The MusicLink Foundation collaborates with professional music organizations, colleges, community music schools, and music businesses to provide partial to full scholarship lessons, targeting students who are eligible for free or reduced lunch programs or who otherwise demonstrate financial need. MusicLink raises funds to provide camp scholarships and grass roots grants to our students, teachers and alliance organizations. MusicLink has worked closely with the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation in seeking outstanding students in financial need that are eligible for its prestigious scholarships and awards. Our efforts attracted Andre Watts, international concert pianist to our advisory board. MusicLink is broadening its scope to bring pop/rock/jazz lessons to low-income students in major metropolitan areas, beginning in Washington DC and Los Angeles in 2006-2007. Among our partners in this initiative are the Gibson Foundation and Verdine White of Earth Wind and Fire.
