Mission
Mofilms is an independent media organization that is dedicated to creating solution-oriented documentaries in order to inform the world about important social and environmental issues. We are committed to providing our films free of charge - via high-resolution Internet download, donations to schools and libraries, and by providing DVDs for home use.
Programs
Mofilms has completed three documentaries to date. Our first 30-minute short, ‘Regarding Medical Marijuana’, was released in 2004. ‘Regarding Medical Marijuana’ has shown at numerous film festivals across the United States and won the Peoples Choice Award at the Compassionate Use Film Festival in San Francisco in 2004 as well as a Best Documentary Honorable Mention Award at the New York International Independent Film and Video Festival for 2004. 'Regarding Medical Marijuana' takes an in-depth look at California’s Medical Marijuana battle to distribute and buy a medicine that under state law is legal, yet under federal law is still a Schedule 1 narcotic. This film was donated to Free Speech TV on the Dish Network and was aired numerous times in 2004 and 2005. In addition, 'Regarding Medical Marijuana' has been downloaded, free of charge, over 33,000 times from individuals in more than 100 countries.
Our second film, 'Freedom Fuels' featuring Daryl Hannah and Willie Nelson, won the 2006 Environmental Preservation Award at the Artivist Film Festival in Hollywood and won Best Documentary at the 2007 Las Vegas International Film Festival. 'Freedom Fuels', a 49-minute documentary, examines the world of renewable fuel sources such as bio-diesel, ethanol and vegetable oil, highlighting both the positive and negative impacts they represent. This film has also been donated to Free Speech TV on which it is currently showing, as well as public access television stations and eight Internet based video distribution platforms across the world. ‘Freedom Fuels’ has been downloaded over 58,000 times from individuals in more than 120 countries.
Our latest release, ‘Justicia Now’, is a 31-minute documentary about ChevronTexaco’s toxic legacy in the Northern Ecuadorian region of the Amazon rainforest – and a courageous group of people called Los Afectados (The Affected Ones) who are seeking justice for the ensuing cancer, sickness, and death in the largest environmental class action lawsuit in history. The film portrays Pablo Fajardo - the humble unassuming lead lawyer, and Luis Yanza - the founder of the Amazon Defense Front, who were recently awarded the 2008 Goldman Environmental Prize for championing the fight against corporate oil. 'Justicia Now' premiered at the Raleigh Studios’ Chaplin Theatre in Los Angeles on Saturday November 10, 2007. Actress and environmental activist Q’Orianka Kilcher introduced the film. We are working with organizations such as Amazon Watch and the Rainforest Action Network to inform the world about the situation in Ecuador using 'Justicia Now' as the medium. Over 11,000 viewers have downloaded the film since the web launch on Nov 11th. The film recently won the “Short Film Competition” and separate “Audience Award” at the 2008 EcoFocus Film Festival in Athens, GA.
