MENTOR/National Mentoring Partnership

Mission

Founded in 1990, MENTOR is driven by the fact that mentoring works. MENTOR works with a nationwide network of more than 30 State and Local Mentoring Partnerships to bring mentoring to scale. This means doing whatever it takes - state by state and community by community -to connect the 15 million children in this country who want and need mentors with caring adults who will listen to them, stand by them and help them develop to their fullest potential.

MENTOR offers a full range of mentoring resources, all of which are available on our award-winning Web site at www.mentoring.org.

Web-based services include:
--Online interactive training
--Downloadable training materials
--Hyperlinks to other sites
--Current news about mentoring
--Expert advice
--Real stories about real mentors and the youth they care about

Other services and products include:
--Publications that help communities start, maintain and improve their mentoring efforts.
--Response Line - get answers about all aspects of mentoring.
--Technical Assistance Mentoring experts are available to consult and train on all aspects of workplace-, faith-, school- and community-based programs mentoring.
-- Standards "Elements of Effective Practice" outlines all the issues organizations and programs must address to ensure their mentoring efforts are of the highest quality.
--Contacts - Our network of State and Local Mentoring Partnerships strengthens mentoring initiatives by focusing on: mentor recruitment and referral, training and technical assistance, public awareness, resource development, and data collection.
--Advocacy - Our Public Policy Council keeps constituents apprised of what Congress is doing to support mentoring and what we are doing to enhance that support.
--Mentor Training Initiatives We work with communities to help establish high-quality mentor training programs.
