    ABERDEEN - The school district and a local church are partnering for a mentoring program for students that will provide tutoring as well as guidance from community volunteers. "This program began as a partnership between the district and the Community Bible Fellowship Church," said Wayne Spells, principal of the Cambridge Park Elementary School and director of special programs for the Matawan-Aberdeen Regional School District.   3. Middle school mentoring program ready to expand

    A Brooks Middle School mentoring program is expanding into an academy for African-American boys in both Oak Park District 97 middle schools. The district plans to start a Leadership Academy for Young African-American Men.   5. Parish gets mentoring program for at-risk youth

    “Once we had saturated those areas, we wanted to move into the community over here (in the parish),” Coalition Director Chuck Mayfield said. Those at the meeting included members of the coalition and representatives of the Concordia Parish School District.     POCOMOKE CITY -- Almost 20 kids at Pocomoke Middle School will each see a new friendly face once a week this year, thanks to the new Bigs in School program managed by Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Lower Eastern Shore. Advertisement Eighteen Big Brothers and Sisters, mainly students at University of Maryland Eastern Shore, have signed up to participate in the program. Each one of them will meet with a student at the school for an hour each week either during their lunch period or after school. During that time they will help with homework, play board games or participate in other activities.
