Melanie commented on the petition |Autism Speaks spends only 2% of money raised on family and community services. As an autistic adult, I find it reprehensible that they drive out money from local communities. Furthermore, Autism Speaks continually represents autism as a fate worse than death. Such fear-mongering hurts and stigmatizes autistic people. People are not more "aware" about what it's like to be autistic; instead, they are scared of people like me. I respectfully ask that you stop supporting an organization that exploits autistic people and their families.
