All countries "talk about" how they value their children and yet, we still do not have a worldwide law about child traffiking and a worldwide enforcement agency to arrest and prosecute those who exploit the most vulnerable -- our children. I am so glad to see this worldwide problem finally out in the open because without awareness child traffiking and the people who engage in this hideous crime remain in the shadows without exposure. It's time for western countries to take a leadership role in law enforcement on this worldwide crime against children. Imagine if you will what this one act of child protection would do for the future of the western nations and all countries where children are exploited? I don't think terrorist groups would stand a chance. As long as one person is allowed to reign in terror over a child that one person represents a group of people who create terrorism worldwide against our children.
I had Barbie while I was growing up and here is how she worked for me: Barbie owned the airport where Ken worked as a pilot, she liked to look good and surprise people that she had a brain as well as breasts, she was kind and considerate and did not tolerate rudeness, and she believed in herself and stood for the rights of girls to be all that they could be! and she developed her identity within the concept of feminine values that did not include race or sexism or exploitation.
Hats off to the Washington Post! Now how about all the other media outlets taking note and following "suit". I would truly like to see this nation have a conversation about sexiam in the media at the same level it has had conversations about race. Perhaps then people will begin to raise their own awareness and consciousness about the harm sexism causes in this country and around the world. Otherwise, hypocrisy will continue to prevail in the United States guidsed as 'satire" and "humor". Let's face it. We can't begin to hold other countries accountable for sexism and it oppression if the United States media allows it to proliferate! Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is an intelligent, courageous, and daring woman who draws this type of sexism because she stands for what women can be in a country that promotes democracy and social justice...now it's time we all start living it!
Speaking up about sexual exploitation by advertisers (especially of our children and teens) does not translate into being "uptight about sex". That argument is always the comeback when initiating a conversation about sexual exploitation by advertisers. Health sexuality includes having a conversation about the social norms that sustain exploitation.
