@Sarah R:
While I largely agree with your comments, I do feel that the following statements were very minimizing to male rape survivors, of which I AM one. You said, "How often do you hear about men being raped? 90+% of rape cases are a woman as victim, "man" as attacker."
Let's see, current stats as presented by the organization 1 in 6 show that 1 in every six males is a survivor of sexual assault either as a child or an adult. How often does it happen? Quite often.
I don't know how often you hear about it, nor do I think it an appropriate question to ask. ANY KIND OF RAPE REGARDLESS OF THE STATS IS ONE TOO MANY. Can we please, please, please, please, please stop using stats to minimize the experiences of real life survivors?
I understand the rest of your arguments, but I take serious issue with the use of stats to minimize.
Thank you.
Thank you Claire. As a male survivor of a female rapist, I appreciate what you said. Most women who are raped never report it or speak out. An even smaller number of men report or speak out about their assaults. Make the perp a woman and the numbers plummet to nearly 0.
