Hey Bruce, thanks for asking.
1) So, the honest answer about when things are coming is that I don't know. "As soon as possible" is as close as I can give you. We are adding these "things" as quickly as we can. We have a rough idea of how long each one will take but there's always something that gets in the way, slows us down or lets us push features out faster. If I gave you a time frame it would be a guess and when we released the feature earlier or later, someone would be upset.
2) Similar to not being able to tell you "when", I'm hesitant to say "what". Nothing is final until it's final. Sometimes we build features which change and evolve as we're building them. On paper a feature does "X" and we think we know how it's going to work. But when we actually build it, we have to change a few things to make it easier to use. If we told everyone that we were releasing X, then when it invariably comes out as something slightly different, there's going to be a whole lot of people who call me a liar and are upset that Change.org is trying to undermine their ability to plan ahead. We're damned if we do and damned if we don't so to speak.
But, in general, we're adding things which make it much easier to find actions which are relevant to you, better ways to connect with other activists globally, nationally and locally, and more ways to increase the impact of the campaigns you run and participate in...to name a few. I'm not going to say much more than that because I'll just put my foot in my mouth.
3) That's a good idea, let me talk to tech about adding that in.
As for commenting on petitions needing the petition to be signed first, this comment section was added to allow people to expand on and discuss how to best move forward the campaign. Anyone can still comment on the articles about the issues surrounding the campaign and discus the problems, concerns and issues, but this space is meant to be for collaboration and impact. That's why you need to sign to comment.
I hope that answers some of your questions in a more honest and open way. Let me know if I missed anything.
We're looking into it and hope to fix that soon. Sorry for the inconvenience George. Thanks for letting us know.
How can we bring what you liked about the previous format into this new one?
Hey Ani, thanks for the feedback.
Those features are still there, just at different URLs now. For example, Most Recent is now at http://animals.change.org/#most-recent and My Actions is at http://www.change.org/#my-campaigns (just click on any of the tabs directly above the list).
We avoid changing the site dramatically whenever possible, but sometimes we do need to make changes. Apologies for the disruption it's caused this time.
Hey Andrew, I know there have been a lot of changes over the last six months. We've had to make a lot of them just to keep up with growth and keep the site ticking as we replace old and inefficient code with newer and more efficient implementations.
There are going to continue to be lots of small additions and changes in the coming months and years as we push the boundaries of online (and offline) activism. We've been leading innovation in this area for four years, and we are going to keep making it more effective and more impactful as we move forward. Every change we make here is to enable more people to have as much impact as you have - and if our numbers are right, we're doing that pretty well so far.
We will continue to get better at keeping people in the loop about roll outs and they will be more incremental in the future (we had to make this big expansion all at once for various reasons unfortunately). Let's chat over email about how we can make the new features less jarring in the future. I'd love your feedback.
Sherry, what can we do to improve it? We've moved to this layout to enable features and new forms of activism that we couldn't add in the older version, but we want to make sure that things are still user friendly for everyone here. So, what can we do to make it less of a mess for you?
Hey Kenny,
Sorry about the password glitch, that seems to have been an isolated incident.
I am curious what you think after a few days of using the site though. Any suggestions, questions, comments?
Thanks.
Justin
We've got a lot left to do on the user profile pages, don't worry, we're going to be adding features back in shortly :)
Hey folks, rail against the issue, argue with the ideas, debate the topics; but never ever attack or insult the user. Telling each other to shut up isn't going to get us anywhere constructive.
Thanks.
Hi Rick, I'm sorry to be dense, but I'm still not understanding. If the issue is the helpdesk login, it's something we're aware of and are going to be fixing as soon as possible. If it's something else, please let me know so we can try to fix it.
Victoria, can you submit a ticket to help@change.org (I know it's not the most smooth, but our tech people are there to help solve bugs...I'm no programmer so I can't fix it I'm afraid). If we're losing signatures or sending double invites, we definitely want to know about it and fix it ASAP.
