Because since i have been broadcasting as intern and now practicing the profession, i paid close attention to the drive behind CNN coverages and , unfortunately, i found out it is nothing to do with urgency, the importance of a news story, or less for the public education of the community of viewers. It has all to do with corporate interests, political alignments.
The 1995 war and the post-war in the D.R.Congo has gotten less attention from CNN, when it came to the point where some of the high officials the US government leaders were directly involved in the making of it.
On the post -war brought from Rwanda and Uganda (1995-2003), the DR Congo went through a period of invasion by foreign militias and armed-groups led by generals from Paul Kagame's circles. Bloody minerals cases just got isolated reports from the World's largest news network.
The latest Novemre 2011 elections, tainted by serious irregularities and massive fraud and cases of violence , added to voter's suppression, intimidation, did not move CNN to do what is right. : Report on it. A scandal in the news broke: 3 Million electoral cards were found in a warehouse in Johannesburg where it was being set up to be shipped to the province of Katanga in the DRC to be stuffed in ballots at polling stations . It is known that those cards had the name of Mr. Kabila (candidate No3). Local South African newspapers and some UN affiliate Radio Okapi reported on the incident that was busted by members from the opposition candidates, called " combattantes."
Finally, it is ironic thing is to see CNN , ready to cover the governor of Katanga stories, to give him one of the prestigious interview ever given to a Congolese leader, while when cases of elections fraud erupted and involved the governor's province CNN shied away and their reporters were no where to be found. That's why we don't like CNN the Most UNTRUSTED name in the news"
