Thanks for letting me know, i didn't assign that photo to the post personally but will inform the people who can correct the problem of this situation.
I'm a man. There is nothing a woman could wear that would make me rape her. You are either someone who would rape a woman or you aren't. I would not rape a woman... given any circumstance.
Dan Rottenberg obviously wants to create a stir and get attention around his publication.
I'm Australian and I don't want a symbolic Mosque built near ground zero. A 'NEW' mosque would be a 'symbolic presence' and that is potentially hurtful and uncalled for / not needed.
Nine eleven had an impact on a lot of courtries, Australia included (not just the USA). We felt it here as an attack on us also.
Americans are always yelling about their rights and their freedoms as if the concept of freedom is unique to them alone. So under US laws there is probably no way to stop the mosque near ground zero.
Pathetic, and I think the Mayor should block the building of the mosque = make up a new law... I'm all for that. Make it a 'declared precinct' that sounds legislative!
Hey Josie:
The report (http://www.aihw.gov.au/mediacentre/2010/mr20100721.cfm) says: 'In 2008-09, people needing new and immediate accommodation made up a relatively small percentage of total demand (about 4%).' The 80% 75% and 69% figures you mention are of that 4% (not all families seeking assistance).
Basically it's referring to new clients. Not ongoing clients or clients who have accessed assistance before (96%). I didn't see stats for the larger 96% of families who sought SAAP assistance mentioned.
Interesting comments, thanks everyone who contributed. Has the article or comments strengthened your position on giving or not giving, or has it changed it?
I guess everyone is keeping quiet on this topic, or their experience doesn't extend to the pointy end of street culture?
