I’ve been a K-12 special education teacher for 20+ years in all types of schools serving many different populations. I’d connect with my students through peace/human rights education curriculum. In addition to learning their 3 R’s, my students, regardless of grade or ability, understood that they could take control of their world by understanding the rights every person had & the responsibilities they had to those around them. Further, they became hopeful that they "could be the change they wished to see in their world".
With the federal mandate of No Child Left Behind, I was forced to teach a prescribed educational content using narrowly defined methodology. In May 2007 I quit my job to become a Volunteer Peace Teacher. Since then I’ve been working with nonprofit organizations & schools whose administrations see peace & human rights education as part of what creates a 21st century global citizen.
