As an teacher of environmental education I find the corner of Montano and Coors (which is next to the Rio Grande) in Albuquerque the most unsuitable place for the extra lights, traffic, noise that would come with a business as big as Walmart. The area only a stones throw away is home to Muskrat, Raccoon, Coyote, Porcupine, Kangaroo Rat, Skunk, and many more. I have seen the sign of all of these animals in the summer of 2011 while undergoing a track monitor training. Hundreds of Albuquerque school children use the are for place-based learning, it is that kind of a special place. There are two other Walmarts closeby - both within a 5 minute drive in either direction. The road that crosses the river was built small on purpose because of the fragility of the ecosystem here. Semi trucks would only have a narrow road to access the store, the road is main access for a school and a neighborhood. Does the school want it? Does the neighborhood want it? If your neighbors don't want it, then WHY PERSIST?
