Yes, assault (especially rape) by the police is very common. When most people talk about the violence sex workers experience, they think only about the clients. However, sex workers regularly experience violence, often due to their economic and legally vulnerable status, from police, health institutions, and others that are supposed to be helping. Yes, I do think it's possible to to decriminalize consensual adult sex work without increasing trafficking, because they are different kinds of economies and have different ways of functioning. A decriminalized and better regulated sex industry means that there could be better labor protections, which will make it easier to identify trafficking and forced labor situations.
