Well said, Alison. You captured the inner-turmoil too many female-rape victims face.
A girl on my campus was raped a couple weeks ago, yet she waited a couple days before reporting the incident to police or telling anybody because she felt too ashamed, she said. And she blamed herself for walking alone through the parking lot that night.
I agree that education about this issue is definitely a step in the right direction. In fact next quarter, the Student Senate on my campus, for the first time, plans on organizing seminars for women regarding ways they can prevent and protect themselves as well as what actions they should take if a rape ever happens.
I can only hope that additional education and proper support will help alliviate this problem.
Putting a stop to corporate profiteering on student loans? Great idea in theory. Let's eliminate the private loan middle-man and have the government administer its own loans.
Bad idea.
Even though I am currently a college student, I still think the Student Aid and Fiscal Responsibility Act is a horrible idea.
There is a legit reason why this bill has been bogged down in the Senate for as long as it has. Not everyone, and I'm hell as sure not me, would be eligible for these promising grants. That's 19 million students currently enrolled in a univesity or community college it'd have to support.
To make things worse, I'd worried after I graduate that in addition to working to help pay off my loans, I'd also be helping to pay for someone else's loans.
This just sounds like some skewed governmental take-over. The last thing I want is for some federal bureaucrat telling me what student-loan system would be better for me.
