Another woman water hero is Ariane Kirtley, founder and director of Amman Imman: Water is Life (http://www.ammanimman.org). Ariane is addressing the needs of the people of the Azawak of West Africa, 500,000 inhabitants who live with a persistent drought over 9 months during the year. They spend their lives searching for water, traveling as much as 30 miles in a day. Simply put, they are dying of thirst.
Drilling boreholes wells that reach water in the region at a depths of at least 600 feet deep, Ariane and her team have constructed two sustainable and permanent sources of water in this vast valley the size of Florida. Each borehole provides water for at least 25,000 people and animals in the height of the dry season. Many more are needed.
Working with local people to improve their economy and implementing innovative solutions to bring quality and health to life in sub-Saharan Africa, Ariane is a water revolutionary. She works to bring solutions where no one else has yet ventured to help. Indeed, she works with a brigade of student heroes as well, Heroes of Compassion - future leaders with with a philanthropic spirit - who raise awareness and funds via Amman Imman's service learning program, Wells of Love.
