By pure chance, I witnessed a large part of this leaving the library Friday. Besides being a crime against the students, the rhetoric (read: propaganda) that came afterwards constituted even more heinous violence against language. Thanks to Katehi, et.al., words like "civility," "community," "health" and "safety" have been redefined and conflated with violence and brutality. Thus, she no longer has any legitimate authority to invoke these precious words with even a modicum of credibility. From now on, when uttered by her or any UC authority, these words must be understood by the receptor as devoid of meaning.
