Hello Mark! Still making anti-immigrant remarks across the blogsphere? Nannys and gardeners theives? Let's start with Gardeners Mark. Are you talking about the men who are picking lettuce in the fields of Yuma, Arizona in the unbearable hot sun? You need to pick up the book "Working in the shadows", and read that one Mark, and you will find that the writer Gabriel Thompson exposed that no one wants that job. Are you talking about the immigrants that worked, and rebuilt Lousianna after Katrina Mark? Because if you do a little research you will also find that Americans aborted their mission when the working conditions were so horrible that the only people that the only people left to rebuild America were the undocumented immigrants. Nannys Mark? Could you be talking about the Nannys that watch the children of middle class Americans that can not afford expensive Nanny?
What game Mark? I think we all no the game by now. You are opposing a reasonable solution to the problem.....It's called Immigration Reform. Why? Because you don't like people with brown skin.
It has been very fustrating, and very disapointing to be a Democrat and experience this. Immigration is now an issue on the front burner (thanks to SB 1070?!), and it is all just used for political gains. The Congressman that really disturbs me, is Patrick Murphy that covers New Hope, PA. This guy is liberal on everything especially gay rights but he has been a major obstructionist with immigration reform. Why? It makes no sense to me. His constituents are from liberal, liberal New Hope!! Just walk the town and talk to the local merchants, and folks in the bars. If you mingle around town you will find the people are strong supporters of immigration reform. Does Patrick Murphy really fit into liberal, liberal New Hope?
Thank you Prerna for this information on Menendez's chief council Talbot. I have not worked with Menendez's group,...except when we called in his territory during the primary election between Obama, and Hillary Clinton.
Well I am glad that Senator Schummer met with these students. Hunger strikes do grab attention. If we take a look back in history, we will see that it took strong willed "sufferage sister's" to starve themselves for a woman's right to vote in this country. It will not be long before these brave individual's find their "Dream" come true. These Dream kids must feel proud, because they are now a part of US history.
The worker should be protected. It is the employer that is the magnet. The employer's violation of labor laws that keeps human trafficking a lucrative business. The DHS should be focused on inforcement against the employer.
Sorry for the typo: Meant to say Arizona.
My guess is that shortly areas of Arizonia, are going to become ghost towns. Along with that their economy will tank. Other town's have driven their immigrant's out, and they are model's as to what the aftermath is to become. It's a surprise they haven't learned from experience, but many politician's only care about politic's and not people. It's too bad that Gov. Brewer think's more about her lobbyist's, and re-election then the welfare of the people in the state of Arizonia.
In the book Underground America..Narratives of undocumented lives by Luis Alberto Urrea, an undocumented woman give's a testomony. In her testomony she talks about how she worked to rebuild Louisana, after Katrina. After Katrina almost all of the US worker's left the worksite's after three day's of labor. The condition's were so horrible there. She talks about having mequito bite's that were so large that to this day she still has welt's on her body. She also talk's about the fact that no food, or water was brought in for a long time. There was no aid. She had to rumage through garbage's just to try to find water bottle's that had a little water in them. There was nothing! No electricity, and people had gotten sick from suffercating and being bitten.
The most frightening part of her testimony was that when she was working in the Casino's the night her boss new that the diaster was suppose to hit, she and the other undocumented immigrant's were asked to stay, and work all night long. This casino was a structure that floated out on the water..."on a pier." The American worker's were told to evacuate. Now why would the boss tell all his undocumented worker's to continue to work all night long knowing the building is going to come down?? Knowing that if they stay there, they will all die??
Well, she does decide to pick up and evacuate, and eventually after the town is rebuilt she get's a job working for a hotel, and is eventually arrested by ICE. She stay's in detention for around a year, and is treated horribly. She is in dungeon like cell's, and is really abused in the system.
When she finally get's released in Memphis, as she left the prison the guard say's to her "Now, Behave!" She say's "Why should I behave?" Then the guard ask's her why she was in prison. She respond's by saying...."For working to much!"
Is this how we treat the people that risked their live's to rebuild Louisiana, after the devastating "Katrina"....????
