I live in a fairly old neighbourhood, and our roof as well as a lot of others nearby, while not white, are light grey, which I imagine is still helpful? This is a clever idea, but I've always wondered, what effect does a white roof have in the winter? Would it decrease the temperature then as well, causing the furnace to be used more? If so, then it wouldn't be worth it in my climate (the Canadian prairies), since I only use the air conditioning a few days a year (only when the temperature goes over 30ish C), whereas the furnace is on for quite a few months. Does anyone know what the effects are in cold weather?
