Well, I kind of doubt if the white girl had been picked instead of the black girl you would see blow back from it. It's sad that it's the situation our society's in but that's just what seems to happen today.
Remember in the 90s when SNL issued an apology because they said Chelsea Clinton was ugly? This skit is 1,000 times worse than that but you don't hear a peep from the SNL folks.
Constance, you need to read a little more carefully because I never said I didn't find the skit offensive. I can see where someone would say it's funny in the abstract but that doesn't mean I find it funny.
Well, I look at it this way...had the skit been about him buying one of two black folks we'd have every organization combating racism running for the nearest microphone to call for the cancellation of SNL. (Not that SNL would run a skit where they're deciding between two blacks to buy.)
In terms of humor, in the abstract it's funny in the same way someone can build a case that using jokes referring to autistic children as retards is funny. It doesn't mean it's something that should be societally acceptable.
Lara, I've worked in the media and I can say without hesitation that most of the time it takes a lot for a story involving a young black girl to get the same kind of attention it would for a young white girl. There's a racial bias still inherent in the system and it needs to be recognized so it can be removed.
