  • New American Media: Time for Immigration Reform Is Now

Thanks, Gary. I have recently heard stories of  visa backlogs being up to several years long..I cannot even imagine what this holding period is doing to the lives of these immigrants. Those who question the motives of these immigrants should look no further than this broken green card visa process. Fix that, and it will NOT solve the problem, but it will certainly help it!

  • How Immigrants Make You Safer

I have written it before, but the value of the eb5 green card simply cannot be underestimated. Talk about keeping you safe? Many immigrants are using these visas to create jobs that emply Americans!! What better way to keep you safe than by giving you a job, and the security that comes with it!! Please add this to your list so more people know about the value of these visas and the immigrants who are fortunate enough to acquire them and kind enough to hire unemployed immigrants and natives.

I think a fantastic idea for either of your blogs would be a story covering a succesful immigrant who entered the country with an eb5 investor visa. These visas are giving immigrants opportunities to create businesses and jobs for both immigrants and natives. I hope you look into it because it is so seldom discussed, yet so worthy a topic. All the best, Marius.

  • Top Ten Videos on Poverty in the U.S.

That last video is one of the saddest things I have ever seen. Video #8 is what really hit home for me. The company I work for helps well off potential immigrants to enter teh country with an eb5 green card. These are immigrants that want to open businesses and hire American employees. They are so often unspoken of in the shadows of stories like those of the three remarkable and strong young Latino women in that story, and we need to make sure that all sides of immigration, the tough stories and the success stories, get shared in forums like this.

I agree that the problem needs to be deconstructed in order ot be solved. How about the fact that many illegals are forced to enter illegally because entering legally is such an incredibly broken process. If attaining a green card visa was not such an inpenetrable process, we would see more of the illegals enter properly and make a living without having to break the immigration policies to do so.

  • Immigration and the Politics of Security

"If history has shown one thing about immigration politics in time of national stress, it is that such periods are intensely traumatic for the targeted communities and later regretted by the majority."

Very well said! I wish that more people were aware of the POSITIVE things immigrants bring to this country. For example, both 2008 and 2009 have been banner years for immigrants taking advantage of the eb5 visa program. With this program many immigrants are entering the country legally and bringing with them many jobs and millions of dollars for the US economy. Often times these new companies employee native citizens as well as fellow immigrants. these types of things need to be kept in the discussion of immigrants because they are POSITIVE and RELEVANT.

  • Green Cards for Sale: $1 Million

Are you sure your numbers are correct? I am under the impression that the requirements for the eb5 investor visa are a half million and 8 jobs, not a million and 10 jobs...

  • Americans Traveling to Mexico for Health Care
Mike commented on the article | about 2 years ago

For profit hospitals will never go away. Just like the oil companies will never go away, and health insurance will never go away. These are multi-billion dollar institutions. Once those kind of money making operations come into being, they do not go away. One thing that surprises me about the info this article presents, is that Mexicans are returning home for health care. Imagine, even for legal immigrants spending years trying to get a green card visa, that you would have to return home, to the country you so desperately wanted out of, to receive the most basic human need - health care. Unreal, saddening and actually quite disturbing.

  • Latin@s Most Likely To Die on Job

An interesting note to this post is that many immigrants enter this country with something called an immigrant investor visa. This visa is given if the immigrant in question is pumping at least $500,000 into the economy and creating at least 8 jobs. The fatalities for these immigrant run businesses (the vast majority of which remain qualified as small businesses) have among the lowest fatality rates in the country. So, while immigrant workers may be having high fatality rates, immigrant run businesses are faring much better.

I catually do think  you should have to present a Photo ID to vote. There is so much fraud going on in elections today that I think ti can only help. Also, I don't understand illegal immigrants on this issue. If they are illegal, they have no right to vote...so what is the fuss about? That said, all legal immigrants should be allowed to vote, and if they simply do not have any ohoto ID, then they should still be allowed to vote, using whatever ID they have. I know a man who arrived in this country with a eb5 investor visa and despite how prosperous he is, he does notchoose to vote. So while some immigrants take their right to vote for granted, some, much less financially fortunate ones really want to cast their vote whenever they can.
