I think students are quite capable of judging the racist content, if any, of books. Open discussion with well-trained teachers is the proper way to go, instead of censorship.
I am most definitely autistic, but the proposed DSM-5 criteria are so vague and subjective that I may lose my diagnosis and the ADA rights it brings.
Autism Speaks stigmatizes and infantilizes us autistics. We don't need to be cured nor have our births prevented. If Mr. Bell had his way, Einstein and Vernon Smith, both Nobel Prize winners, would not have been born. Instead of pandering to Autism $peaks' hatred and greed, we need people who truly understand and seek to better the lives of people with disabilities or autism.
BTW, I'm autistic and do not consider myself disabled. How many non-autistics have a high-paying job, a Ph.D.s and a family? Autism is an integral part of my being.
