I've worked with at-risk folks for the last 40 years. For 26 of those years I taught in alternative high schools, the last 10 of which I taught kids locked up in an adult jail. My book "I Don't Wish Nobody to Have a Life like Mine: Tales of Kids in Adult Lockup" (Beacon Press, Mar. 2010) tells the stories on many of the young people I meet while I was working in the jail. MY other writing (poetry and creative nonfiction) often reflects the people I have met and worked with.
