I don't believe the employee should be fired. The reaction to this incident should educate the employee and the airline. The lesbian and gay community are part of our diverse human family, and affection and love are powerful forces that contribute to the success of our species. Fairness, respect and empathy demand my response.

It is the obligation of an occupier to ensure the legitimate rights of the occupied. This is a responsibility, and if Israel is not prepared to uphold its responsibility, it should unilaterally, depart to its own borders and allow the Palestinians to provide for their own legitimate needs. This is not a security issue; it is another small step to a grander plan. Sounds a bit like lebensraum. Ring a bell? Fascism? Manifest destiny?

Yesterday, I discovered why I had a previously unexplainable case of insulin resistance in a diabetic I had seen for years.  I had been progressively increasing his insulin dosage and seeing no effect in his blood sugars.  I knew that he was disabled, had lost his job and his full medical insurance, but was now on Medicare.  Still, he didn't have enough money to pay the 20% of approved compensation to physicians that Medicare leaves for patients, or a secondary insurance to cover.  So, I waived that fee, settled for 80% of what Medicare deems an appropriate charge, but despite frequent visits and adjustments of insulin dosage, I was getting nowhere.

Yesterday, he confessed that where I had ordered 100 units, he was taking 45 units....to save money!  This had been going on for 3-6 months, in a patient that I thought I had rapport established over 15 years.

We switched to samples, for free, as long as they hold out, and requests to the drug company for hardship help.  He has too much disability income to qualify for MediCal.  If he were on IMS (Orange County's indigent medical services,) his insulin would be covered.

Single Payer and realistic prescription coverage.....badly needed.

Of course, Medicare will cover his dialyses.  I do not know the exact nature of how this man spends whatever money he has.  I don't know why he doesn't qualify for MediCal.  But, I do know where he is headed.
