Weldon Rogers' profile states that you are from Turlock, California.

If you are from Canada, why would you sign a chanage.org petition to lobby our government for a single payer system?
I don't lobby forign governments, and I don't appreciate it when they get involved in mine.

Me, and about 80% of Americans like what we have, but hate the fact that the GOV mandates that we pay for more services.  Let US CHOOSE SERVICES.  My kids are grown, but next year in Colorado I pay $100 more for Autisim coverage, plus even more for Alcoholism coverage.  Its MANDATED by the state... NO CHOICE!!!

As you put it: " People just have to be willing to except slightly higher taxes".  No, we are not willing, and in 2010 it will be very, very obvious.

When I was in my 20's, I paid for my own doctor visits... serious poison ivy and a tetanus shot.  It cost a lot less than a GOV MANDATE.
I still agree with my 20's self... I will pay for care when/and IF I need it.  Keep your tax-happy hands off my paycheck.

You want young people to pay thousands for insurance to PRIVATE insurers?  Sure, they can have the GOV option for 20% more if they choose.  Forcing everyone between EXPENSIVE and MORE EXPENSIVE just stinks.  Let us risk, let us achieve, and let us fail, and be FREE to do so.

I am the only one who can pick myself back up and try again.

    Ah, refreshing.

The senate bill mandates healthcare insurance... THE GOV MANDATES THAT YOU BUY GREEDY COMPANY'S INSURANCE!!!

The senate bill (senate=paid-off politicians) benefits the insurance companies.

The CONSERVATIVE options for insurance reform weaken the insurance companies.  Not this "sort-of" compete with insurance companies approch to mandating coverage.

My basis for the reality of government competition: HP offers a laptop with 4GB of RAM for $599... next day, DELL offers a similar laptop for $579.  At the same time, the GOV wants to offer a laptop... but its cost is $800.  The GOV continues to operate in the RED, but can set standards that HP and DELL have to comply with... thus controlling regulation the market in which they compete.  AND, the GOV can continue to operate in the RED, like the postal system, AMTRAK, and soon to be: GM.  Us TAXPAYERS flip the bill to keep these failing enterprises going.

Now, substitute HP or DELL for Humana, AARP, or Blue Cross.  Millions of dollars in political gifts are given to politicians to ensure that any mandates benefit their insurance pools (force every man-woman-child to buy insurance).

The Congresss' bill and the Senate bill favor insurance companies.

"You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich. You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong. You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift. You cannot lift the wage earner up by pulling the wage payer down.  You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred.  You cannot build character and courage by taking away men's Initiative and independence. You cannot help men permanently by doing for them what they could and should do for themselves."  - Abraham Lincoln

  • Why Do We Need a Public Option Anyway?
Jason commented on the article | over 2 years ago

OH, NO... NOT PROFIT!  Profit is what keeps people employed.  Why do politicians attack profit?  (because that's what the narrow minded will believe)

Since when did "profit" mean the same thing as "greed".  Last time I checked, profit means you have happy customers.

Your first paragraph consists of two very long sentences.  Do you have any real proof of out-of-control profits?  Do you have real facts that you can reference from non-partisan sources?  I use www.state.co.us for all of my facts because everything the insurance industry does here is mega-regulated and well documented online.

ALL of the facts for Colorado are published including claims $$, premiums, claim appeals, increases in state mandates, and increases in costs due to increased mandates.  We even have a public option!  It gets 25% of its funding from "special taxes and fees on insurers".  We already have price controls... our insurance commissioner approves all the increases!

Martin, I imagine that you mean tort reform that is promoted by doctors.  Doctors are not looking for reform based on the fact that some movie maker labels all doctors as greedy.

Hey Harold, check with your state Insurance commissioner to see what mandates were added.

Here in Colorado, Autisim was added to our state mandates which raised coverage costs by $100/yr.  http://www.state.co.us/gov_dir/leg_dir/olls/digest2009a/INSURANCE.htm

It is important to know that the increases are not just driven by "greed", but by increases in coverage.  Me: I dont have kids with autism, but it looks like I will be paying $100 more a year anyway.  Thanks CO state insurance commissioner!
