David, terrific post. I've been running into this a lot too. I think more than green/cause washing, some of the people who describe their companies as social enterprises truly believe it. Their understanding is if they donate x amount to a cause then they're a social enterprise. Much confusion and fuzzy boundaries in the social business vernacular.
William, I support your efforts and strategy to achieve sustainable change. I've seen good intentions lay fallow without local involvement. Best of luck--please keep me posted on your organization.

You bring up an important point here--the benefit in scale and efficiency that collaborating sectors bring. There's a nice 'food chain' of social entrepreneurship developing, in that one organization can leverage another group's existing network to distribute, educate, ect.
I just did some research on the Children's Safe Drinking Water initiative, which is a program of P&G and PUR. They are doing an excellent job of tapping into existing distribution networks and trust relationships to distribute their technology to purify drinking water and reduce disease.
