BOY - you sure got that Right! I've known many people who were friends of mine on the streets that really seemed to ENJOY the freedom that homelessness provides. At some point back when I was homeless - I was totally content to be out there "Flyin' a sign!"
However - at one time...I decided to sober up and see what life was on "the OTHER side!"
When I was homeless for 10 years - I had an idea. Get about 10-20 people with homes/good jobs/money...etc. to "trade places" with the same amount of homeless people for about a month. The homeless would be given a hotel room/food...even PIZZA.....while the well-off folks would switch places with them.....NO home/no food/no cell fone/no credit card...absolutely NOTHING. THEN these people would have a REAL taste of what homelessness is all about. NO PRETENDING...NO "camp-outs".....just REALITY - the things homeless people deal with every day! I wonder how many people would volunteer for something like that.....
I think some excellent candidates for this would be some of those kids who have taken part in "abuse" of the homeless....instead of merely fining the little cruds - give them a taste of what it's all about!
There - I've said my piece...would like to hear what others have to say about my idea!
