  • From Boston to Saudi, Vegan Eateries Are Showing How Delicious Compassion Can Be
The Voracious Vegan commented on the article | about 2 years ago

Oooh an all vegan pizza place sounds like heaven. I have heard so much about Daiya cheese, as soon as I get back to the states I have got to get my hands on some. You can bet the first thing I make will be pizza.

Stephanie, thank you so much for including me in this post about vegan businesses. I'm having a blast running Voracious and luckily people seem to love having a vegan option when it comes to their desserts. And if you ever do find yourself on this side of the world you know where to come for some decadently yummy vegan treats. :-) Thanks again!

Oh Stephanie, you just broke my heart and then made me happy again all in one post! At first when I read that you were leaving I was so upset, you are BY FAR my favorite vegan/AR blogger. The way you write is AMAZING, you can lay it down like nobodies business and make me cry buckets with just one sentence. I honestly cannot explain how much your articles have meant to me and my family, you are so incredibly talented and we are so lucky to have you fighting (and writing!) on our side of this worthy cause.

I am SO relieved to hear that I will still be able to read your work and I will definitely follow you to your new space. As long as you keep writing, I will keep reading!

Thanks for writing this article Stephanie! I'm glad someone is speaking out on behalf of pit bulls.

  • What If I Can't Afford to Replace My Wool Coat and Leather Shoes Yet?
The Voracious Vegan commented on the article | about 2 years ago

I was going to say what Kim Johnson mentioned. I've never gotten harassed by fellow vegans when I'm wearing my old leather shoes but it is the first thing that non vegans do when they meet me. I get the all over eye scan as they search for some reason why they can dismiss me and my vegan stance.

I don't have the financial ability to buy many new things, I wish I did. I also don't believe in over consumption or waste, so I am going to wear everything until it falls apart. And most vegans I know feel the same way.

Luckily most of the things I own are already vegan because I never had the money to buy real leather products. Almost all of my purses and shoes that look like leather are fakes, cheap and cheerful!

  • Not It and That and What -- She and He and Who and Whom
The Voracious Vegan commented on the article | about 2 years ago

Fantastic post - thank you! I have been vegan for years and I obviously believe that each and every animal in this world is a unique individual with their own personalities, feelings, thoughts, and memories, just like every human being....but I still slip up and say things like 'Who owns that dog?'

Even growing up surrounded by animals and considering them a part of my family I was conditioned to see animals as property, things that we could own. I am always alert to this bad habit of mine and correct myself as soon as the words are out of my mouth. And I correct others too. Thank you for this article, I will definitely be passing it along to explain my nagging!

  • Friday Food: Lasagnas, Ethiopian, Brownies, Soups & Stews
The Voracious Vegan commented on the article | about 2 years ago

Delicious choices! The weather has finally gotten colder here, and this morning it even rained - a truly rare event in this part of the world - so I am definitely in the mood for cozy stews and comforting dishes. Thanks for this round up, Stephanie.

  • Holiday Gifts and Donations with Animals in Mind
The Voracious Vegan commented on the article | about 2 years ago

AWESOME! We don't have many ethical or affordable shopping options here in Saudi so shopping online (well, 'window' shopping) is one of my favorite things to do when I need something new or when I'm looking for a gift. These resources are incredible, I can't wait to get to it. Thanks Stephanie!

  • "Cavemen" in Cages Do Nothing to Help Zoos' Real Captives
The Voracious Vegan commented on the article | about 2 years ago

Ughghg the idea that zoos are such a great option for animals because 'they are safer there than in the wild' is obnoxious and I have heard it way too often.

It seems like this gimmick is another joke, trivializing what life in a zoo actually means for wild animals.

I am grateful for you, Stephanie! You have no idea how much your writing means to me and my husband, you are our number one favorite AR/vegan blogger. The way you write is heartbreaking, honest, and straight to the point, all the time. Really, I don't know how you do it so consistently and on such a hard topic, but I'm glad you do.

    THANK YOU SO MUCH!

  • Thanksgiving Dilemmas: Family, Tension, Killing, and Compassion
The Voracious Vegan commented on the article | about 2 years ago

I totally  hear you about having less patience for stupid and insensitve omni jokes and rude remarks, not to mention the death and pain they put on the table. Isn't it funny that the stereotype is the evangelizing, holier than thou vegan, when in reality the abuse and insults and judgement is nearly always from a meat eater?
