"but we do need to become conscious of the habit and work toward changing it."
Don't you mean changing "him"? ;)
In seriousness -- thanks for writing this post. It's an important topic that most people, including most animal advocates, don't even think about. It's one of those things that, until you really think about it, just goes unnoticed. But then it jumps out at you.
With Rasine, I've tried to be very, very conscious about my use of language when talking about animals, avoiding "it". I'm interesting in seeing how that shapes how she talks about animals as she grows up.
Thanks for the great post, Stephanie. Rasine will appreciate it. :)
As much as we're trying to teach her, we're finding she's teaching us as much, or more, every day.
What's funny is that most people don't realize that milk chocolate is never even "the good stuff." All of the best chocolate is pure dark chocolate with no milk... milk is just added because it's cheap to do so. People have gotten addicted to that taste, though, so it can be hard to convince them that ditching the dairy chocolate is not only the right thing to do, but that in the end, they'll get much, much better chocolate.
