At this late date I wonder if anyone on here has heard of the life line program? On this one u pay for the phone and then 5 dollars a month becauseyou have heath issues that may cost you your life if you can not call for help. It is a fed government program and is wildly used by the homeless people such as myself.

this is all to the good...

However being a homeless vet is no fun and hard to over come.

I have been homeless off and on for 16 years, it has come to an end as of 7/8/10. I now have an apt. of my own at a cost I can pay. To get this I had to go through a native med center and then it took them 9 months to get the help I needed. At no time did any government help and at no time did the VA help.

It is not the job of the med center to get people a place to liuve, nor do they have any department set up to help. However they do care more then the goverments or the VA or the Veterans orgs that did nothing to help me in the hard times.

ANCHORAGE CHURCHES MAY TAKE IN HOMELESS FROM COLD

the anchorage assembly approved a plan to allow some churches and agencies TO provide overnight shelter for the homeless when the temperature drops below 32 degrees.

The cold weather plan approved Tuesday specifies the homeless may not be under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs. Those people can go to inebriate receptions centers.

The anchorage Daily News reports the assembly delayed another decision on how and when police can clear out homeless camps from parks and other city property. Current law permits eviction on 12 hours' notice. The ACLU has sued the city, and now it's considering a five to seven day notice period.

first SINCE WHEN DID SOME ONE HAVE TO HAVE THE OK FROM A CITY TO HELP OTHERS?

next WHY ARE THEY ONLY ALLOWED TO HELP THE HOMELESS WHEN IT IS COLD?

Being 1 of the homeless that has had to beg, I think you are way off in this posting.

I tell people were their money is going if and when they give it to me. I feel you are only seeing 1 side of this issue.

Sorry Jan, there are too many ways to work on this and each advocate will try to do their way and like a lot of other things if you have too many people trying to fix something nothing will get done.

  • Increases in Rent = Increases in Homelessness

Here in Alaska I am seeing the "new" homeless" (people who have been homeless less then 6 months) getting help while us "old timers" get pushed aside to make room for them.

  • The Need to Modernize Data Collection in Homeless Services
James commented on the article | almost 2 years ago

Sorry people but the USA just got a count of its people. I am willing to bet that more homeless did not get counted then did. Why? well I have a PO Box to which they will not sent the form,  you have to have a home address to get 1, or hang around, here any way , with the worst people in the area, for the homeless have More or less been pushed out the shelters so the summer workers can have a place to stay. After this statement I do not believe that The United States Interagency Council on Homelessness is taking public commenton what the federal government should do to improve homeless services will be any thing but more waste of money and time.

I must say some to Jan that I see here in Juneau Alaska,  people here will spend 50 dollars on drinks for some one but will not loan or give 5 dollars so that person can eat something. I don't know if this happens other places but it happens a lot in Alaska.
