I am a retired teacher and violist now very much involved in the restorative justice program in Berrien County for juvenile first offenders, as well as for the cause of Efren Paredes, Jr. , who was sentenced to life in prison without parole at age 15 for a crime he knew nothing about. He was at home with his family at the time, and the chief witness was a classmate who was heavily into drugs and who is now in federal prison for major drug dealing beginning two years before the murder of Efren's grocery store boss. I have visited Efren in prison several times and think highly of him and of his entire family. Please encourage others to sign his petition to Governor Granholm, as she is considering parole or commutation for him.

Joyce commented on the petition |It's not just the per-minute charge that's a problem, but the costs of opening and closing accounts, etc. Communication should be a priority, as it keeps prisoners in touch with a support system for when they are released.
