Christina commented on the article |Parents are the ones who drive the kids to these unhealthy places. Maybe there should be mandatory parenting classes. If I could, I would teach a class on the Lies of Marketing. What do you think makes Mc's and for that matter, any corporate american business sucessful? Marketing. Marketers. Liers, in other words. I know this sounds strong, but I've been part of Corporate America and the Warehousing of People (Nursing Homes, Assisted Living, etc. with the marketing lies of "home away from home, et al, et nauseum) for over twenty five years. Think of it. Every successful corporation is successful because of the marketers. Some marketers are sociopathic, they have no conscience to say, "No, this is a lie to get you in and take your money!" And there are very ethical people who work in marketing who, for a good paycheck and bonuses and money on the side (laundered?) will tell you the sky is falling in a way you would believe it. We are "Corporate America" just as we are "Corporate Churches" now. Hey, this is money in the name of American ethos, money in the Names of God! Listen. We, as the adults, need to wake up out of our marijuana and meth and heroin and alcohol fogs and raise our children to know truth from a lie. if I was still a kid, I'd want a toy too, but when I was a kid, I had to earn it and then my parents walked me (more than a mile) to the local mom and pop toy store and I got to pick one little item and I was in heaven! Now, moms and pops drive their kids in SUV's and other walk-busters and take the kids to Mc's and Wal-Mart's and every other corporate success, just to shut the kids up. You want to put a stop to something, get to know the "enemy". Study the perks of marketing professionals. They go home at the end of the day feeling good and tired from bringing up the census for their companies' wealth, they sweat their jobs if the census of success is down. We as a whole, in our methods of life, are learning to lie for our corporate money, and what is more, we are training the unsuspecting public to believe our lies and we are beginning to believe them ourselves. Turn on your car radio. How many commercials in an hours time? About what? Can you live without the stuff being jammed down our throats? Turn on the television if you have one--how many commercials, fast-talking, cutesy stuff? Put your hat on. Investigate. Write what you find out. Talk about it. Become an Advocate against this crap. Class dismissed.

Christina commented on the article |Ok. This is my third attempt at a reply. I am a terrible computer person and just don't "get it", but here I go again: I am a 60 yr. old grandmother. I have four adult children. I am homeless and living in my car with only my little rat-terrier dog who is a service (therapy) dog, he never barks or messes. He is so well trained. My children yell at me for not making more money (other than general assistance $300 and food stamps) and they will not let me live with them. Their excuses: "Mom, you need to get out there and work" (I am 60 and I have been very ill and no one wants to hire a 60 yr. old for more than minimum wage which I would have to report so that I would be minus the $300 general assistance and then not have enough to rent the tiniest of rooms!); Or, "Mpm, my husband does not want to live with his mother inlaw in our small home", or, "goddamn it, Mom, we are struggling ourselves, how dare you want us to give you a living space!" I have a raging bacterial infection that is being treated rigorously with antibiotics, I am ill, but my children still see me as a vibrant 40 year old. I do not look ill, I actually look great for 60, but that is neither here nor there. I worked as s social worker for all of my adult career life, helping others. I am Christian too, but that means nothing, because Churches won't shelter me. I do nto smoke, do not drink, do not do drugs, except for what the County gives me for depression and suicidal ideation. I am in the process of fighting to get my Disability. I even wrote to President Obama for help, but I got no response. My talents are creative and numerous: I am a decorator and I can make a terrible looking house into a beuatiful Feng-Shui abode, meaning, if there is a landlord out there who "turns" properties, please, instead of letting it be vacant, let me live there and I will make it beuatiful and then you can turn it over for your profit. Christina commented on the article |I naively married an immigrant. I knew nothing of illegal immigrants, greencards and all that. I learned. Romance was like a potion to me, until after the quick marriage. Then it was down to business: money, paperwork, interviews at INS: six years of it: greencard, then citizenship, then he divorced me and trying to complain and fight this injustice through the INS got me only: "You stayed for six years, there's nothing we can do." True, I messed up my life, but I wish there were support groups for people like me, devastated by the lie of love forever (until he/she gets what they have planned long and hard to achieve)...a year later after the divorce, I have lost everything. He is an Engineer with wife and child here now.

Christina commented on the article |I just want to tell the American people that the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society (Jehovah's Witnesses) do not allow their female members to wear pants. You can be disfellowshipped and shunned (lose all your friends and JW family members). Going to their several meetings a week and going door to door, no pants allowed, must be regulation-length dresses or skirts. And if a woman is at a Bible Study where a man (a "Brother) leads the Study, women must cover their heads in submission to the male. We have these problems right here in the United States of America.

Christina commented on the article |I had lived in my car; then with temp Disability check, I was able to afford a room in someone's house. Disability is up in Oct. If I do not qualify for Permanent Disability, I will be homeless again. I am a Senior Citizen. The article on, "Is Homeless Hate Crime Legistration The Answer" was very good. But the "hate" crime, in my opinion, also comes from the people in our churches who turn their backs on people outside of their congregations and even IN the congregations, if someone is homeless, it seems that they pray for you, (and I believe in prayer, so I am NOT knocking prayer or the Lord) yet I cannot understand why they cannot open their doors to the homeless. There are parrish halls, recreation rooms, social rooms...I mean, does it take some Law to admit homeless into made-up church shelters? Maybe, I don't know, but if the churches reached out more, somehow, it just seems that poverty of America's people would somehow go way down. Our churches are usually wealthy off the tithes of members, so for church members, between paying taxes and tithes, isn't there some more active role the church and its' members could take considering all that money that goes to church?

Christina commented on the article |I heard about the one-way ticket deal to move homeless people elsewhere. There were lots of homeless transients when I lived for three years in Livingston, MT. They would often be given one way greyhound bus tickets to Nowhere. It is all like throwing money at something to make it go away. Those with homes and jobs do not want to see those who are down on their luck. This is not the answer, though. Alot of the now homeless are people who a year ago had spouses, families, jobs and then over weeks, months...lost everything. What I want to know is, where are the churches in all of this? The tax-exempt churches who get at least one-tenth of every members' weekly salaries? I remeber back when I was a child (I am 60 now), I went to a strict Catholic school and was literally forced to give to the "Pope's Poor", a medium sized manila envelope that we took home everyday and then handed it over to the nun every morning. The kid who gave the most was stood up and lauded like a saint, the kid who gave the least, was stood up and persecuted like a martyr. How are the churches helping us??? If I look back at all the money that my parents and I gave over my childhood and adult years, I would not be homeless!!! I recently emailed three churches and asked them what they can do for homelessness...I got not one answer! So I called and asked to meet a Pastor to talk over things...he never called. So I went to church to ask the Minister to make up an appointment to talk to me about homeless issues...he never called me as he promised to do. I am Christine, my email is: 7777bunny@live.com.
