I like being around westerners who work for non-profit organisations that run projects across Africa.one, their ubiquitous presence is always a reminder of the failure of leadership that has been the lot of Africans since the colonialists left there continent.two, even though they go to great length not to appear so,they often come across as patronising.Their Africa is always dark, unprepossesing, hopeless, helpless and in need of their help.No bright spot.No silver lining. No hope.
I once had my fill of this depressing meal at a conference at the Columbia University,New York in march 2006.The conference had started well enough and I was having a swell time untill an acedemic came up to introduce renowned economist and professor,Jeffrey Sachs,to the packed hall. That fellows introduction soured my mood.
