Recruiters have to do background checks and everything to sign up someone for the Army. There is no way that the recruiter did not know about the situation before allowing her to join the Army. But I'm guessing that they were desperate enough for new recruites after 9/11 that they turned a blind eye to her situation. After all that she has gone thru doesn't she deserve a chance to earn at least a legal permanent residency. She has fought for a country that she loves when even some citizens born here wouldn't even volunteer to do the same. I am sure there are others like her out there willing to risk their lives but are not allowed because of one little paper.
The age limit is not high considering that these young men and women have been waiting around for the DREAM ACT for the last 10 years. In these years these young men and women have probably already met all the requirements and would be ready to fully contribute to society.
Lets just keep hoping that they pass the DREAM Act soon.
I have a similar story, but I wanted to be a doctor. I have my B.S. in biology and was ready for medical school, now I have to settle for nursing school. One of the things that upsets me the most is too see people my age who are citizens and they have no desire to do anything with their lifes. These people don't even think a high school diploma is important, some just get drunk or high, others have kids and collect welfare, others just end up un jail or worst. I just don't get it. People like this are not productive members of this country and yet have all the benefits that we DREAM to have.
