I love TED talks! I have been introduced to both amazing innovations and disturbing information by the speakers. Some are better than others, of couse. But I'd much rather see this man's presentation than Anthony Robbins (doesn't he already have enough outlets for his ideas?) or some of the totally forgettable presentations you've posted in the past. It's one thing to uphold standards of quality, but this is outright censorship, and I'm very disappointed that TED is not making this important information available.
Free Speech does not guarantee a job in commercial radio. Nor does it protect libel. Most people who screw up that badly at their job costing their employers money and bad press are fired. Jobs are not entitlements.
People are filing FCC complaints against stations and Limbaugh for indecency and obscenity b/c of Rush's remarks about Ms. Fluke. Saying things like she's having so much sex he's surprised she can walk is vulgar and has no business being on the PUBLIC airwaves where any child might hear it! The airwaves belong to *us*, the people, and we have a right to prevent hate-filled, polarizing, misogynistic, and vulgar attacks on fellow Americans off OUR airwaves. The right to free speech ends where someone else's rights begin. There are libel laws, for example.
I don't think this is going to die down and go away this time. This man has done a lot of damage to our country by poisoning political discourse. To excuse him as "entertainment" is the equivalent in our day of excusing the activities that took place in the Roman Colliseum in its day as entertainment (which it was for them). One day people will look back and be amazed that the U.S. was so savage that we found hate radio "entertaining".
Take Rush off our airwaves.
More people need to understand Freedom of Speech. My rights end where someone else's rights begin. I have a right to own a gun, but I don't have the right to go around shooting people who disagree with me. This is what Rush has been doing under the "Freedom of Speech" argument for over *2 decades*. We have been tolerant for waaay too long as he poisoned civilized discussion in this country and turned Americans against each other. Indecency, misogyny, and obscenity should not be on OUR PUBLIC airwaves! Furthermore, in this age of automatic weapons and genocide, people are realizing that we need to stop this kind of fomenting of hatred between Americans over the public airwaves. We know from recent history that 800,000 people can be killed by their fellow countrymen in 100 days using only machete. Read _An Ordinary Man_ by Paul Rusesabagina to learn how hate radio was instrumental in creating the hostile climate that led to the Rwandan genocide in which people turned on their neighbors, friends, and relatives. Do the responsible thing and stop promoting hate and hate radio.
When I was a kid, I went with my parents to see this show on the Steel Pier. We didn't know any better. Now I do. I haven't thought about this act in decades, but when I saw this I was appalled to think that Atlantic City is considering reviving this animal abuse! Hey, why not also revive the circuses in the Roman Colliseum? Because most people found less barbaric ways to entertain ourselves. Cruelty is no longer entertaining to decent people, and this is animal cruelty that should remain a part of our ignorant past.
This just sickens me. If you haven't yet, after signing, please take any other actions you can to stop the private ownership of exotic animals in OH, and if you don't live in OH, then find out what the laws are in your state. There was a documentary made about a year ago about this problem of private exotic animal ownership. I haven't seen it yet, and can't quite remember the title, so if you know the title and somewhere we can watch it on-line, please post it here and let me know. All those innocent animals dead. Species that are threatened with extinction, like tigers, massacred instead of taken to a reputable wildlife sanctuary. Wild animals belong in the wild, and their habitats need to be protected, and people who really love animals would be working to save them from a fate like this. I'm sure there will be other emails from groups like the Humane Society, etc. that will have other actions we can take to change and enforce laws to prevent tragedies like this. Thanks for caring.
