  • The Dangers of Development-Talk: “Non-Emergency Emergencies”

Unfortunately because a situation like this is not a sudden contingency, it's not considered an emergency. People around the world seem to get used to the current situation as it is and forget that people have needed our help for a while, and it has taken too long to respond.

It may be cheesy, but the first thing I thought of after you asked the question of "what would we do" was this: I would probably present it to the donors with an analogy to true friendship and love... you don't just show up for a friend when they have something bad happen to them... you're there for the bad, and the good, but also the whatever... even if nothing's going on, a good friend is there. Obviously we show up more often for either extreme (the good or the bad), but we should remember our presence is important at every step of the way...

So, of course, their efforts and funds are greatly appreciated when something bad and unexpected suddenly happens. But they should also consider a more continuous presence, one that will reward them even further. I don't know, this could probably help in reaching out to the hearts of those pockets.

    Keep up the amazing work!
