There are people who can use the drug and not get hooked, but it is still highly addictive, as are the others you mentioned, and many others that are too numerous to mention. What I really meant to say is that all drugs need to be monitored better by our doc.'s and pharmacy's. I feel if a person is in chronic pain, then yes give some of these more powerful drugs a try, but a lot of these MD.'s are giving them out for any little ache or pain. I still believe that pot, should be for the offering too. What we really need (myslf included) is better education/understanding of all drugs that are prescribed to us. Again I am sorry if I upset you.

You are right on the nose with the pharmacies, and doctors prescribing highly addictive drugs. I work PT for a Drug & Alcohol rehab center. I am shocked and saddened by the number of patients we get that are addicted to opiates, and other prescribed drugs. The way these Doctors are giving oxycontin to patients with back pain, or other similar pain is outrageous. Oxycontin should only be given to a person who is dying. It is HIGHLY addictive, just as addictive as heroin, because it is a synthetic heroin. If you don't believe me watch an intervention show. It boggles my mind that Doctors can give such an addictive drug like that, but are not allowed to prescribe marijuana. We get maybe 1 in every 100 patients that come there just for pot addiction. And most of them are sent by a parent, who is uneducated about marijuana, or for legal reasons. Very rarely do they come because they really feel addicted to pot. But about 60 to 75 percent of our patients are addicted to opiates, and drugs of that nature. Things have really got to change or we will see so much more trouble. I just pray to God, that things will change soon.
