shifting language is a powerful way to frame or reframe an issue...
Thanks for bringing this up, Coral. While I wasn't at 1st CGIU in New Orleans, I did attend (and loved!) CGIU Feb '09 in Austin, TX, when we launched www.fastforwardfund.org at press conf w/Pres. Clinton! I'd like to see the http://mycommitment.org/
expand into a full-blown movement. Maybe we've already begun!
thanks, Lucy. And I like the idea of engaging "MOP" as connection to source of ideas & change. I'd like to shift debate, though, from hierarchical pyramid language to another metaphor (...maybe sphere or spiral?) in which we all have interconnected roles to play, regardless of where we fall. I suggested in a tweet (twitter.com/DAytonShenker) earlier today that we consider calling the 4 billion poor "global majority" instead of "BOP"...
Thanks, Nathaniel! We're so proud of this milestone and grateful for the fabulous Pipeline Partners, Portfolio Student Directors, and founding Board who shape FFF's social venture. FFF welcomes visionary investors to capitalize the fund, make these investment allocations, grow our program and impact. Working together, we're truly pioneering youth-investing-in-youth for global change.
oops, just realized I posted comment intended for your previous post...
anyway, I just finished & enjoyed rdng "Blue Sweater" which I've already passed along to a colleague to read. I loved the way Jacqueline honors her mentors in the book. I've been thinking a lot recently about how fluid our relationships/roles are: mentor, protege, peer...seems like the most potent & poignant relationships have a bit of all three.
