We need to enforce the laws that are already on the books. You cannot legislate common sense or morality. There are thousands of missing and exploited children in the United States. There may be children in your family or community that need protection? Save them!
Finally, someone is willing to have a real conversation about the foreclosure situation in America, thank you. I am one of the unemployed, uninsured American’s who is facing foreclosure in the nest few weeks. When I was laid off two years ago, I contacted my mortgage company and asked them to work with me that refused to modify my loan because I had no income, severance pay and saving did not count as income. When I began receiving unemployment benefits, I contacted them again, only to be told that unemployment benefits are not considered income. Sometime later, the mortgage company contacted me to tell me that now unemployment benefits could be considered income, by then my benefits were exhausted.
I applied for a Homeowner Protection Program through a non-profit in North Carolina. To qualify for the program you must be delinquent at least three months. The program offered homeowners a zero interest 15-year loan up to twenty-four thousand dollars, the loan is contingent on the mortgage company’s willingness to modify the loan, in my case they were not.
So in a few weeks I will be homeless, however I am still optimistic about the future. I during these difficult times, I took odd jobs, while continuing to look for full time employment. I am a 61-year-old veteran and graduate student at a local university who is looking for work. From my vantage point the foreclosure prevention programs have been a dismal failure, a moratorium on foreclosure would be wonderful, but what America needs is JOBS, not health-care, JOBS, not wars, JOBS, not promises, JOBS.
