Our current health care system is based on not serving a significant portion of the population. This absolutely must change and the greed factor and profiting from the misery of human beings must stop.
If I have insurance and get an MRI performed, that will cost my insurance company $700. If I have no insurance, it will cost me $1500. There is something seriously wrong with this especially when it is bankrupting families.
This economy is destroying families.
The USA had the opportunity to demand greater protections for the working people of the world when they entered into these trade agreements. Instead of doing that, politicians embraced the same trade agreements crafted by lobbyists and corporations seeking massive profits. What we are not left with is a major trade imbalance and the inability of USA workers and businesses to compete in the global marketplace. For example, the minimum wage in China is $0.70 per hour in some cities. Mind you, that is a 16% increase over what the minimum wage was just a few months ago. And since Chinese based companies are not required to adhere to the same labor, environment, and reporting standards as USA based businesses, we are left with an uncompetitive workforce on more then just wages.
I have been one of the few that believes we have been in a trade war with China for years. And we are going to lose this war, and our final opportunity to help lift the Chinese people up with greater workplace rights, without even one of our elected officials acknowledging a trade war even exists.
In Ohio, there are few jobs to be had. A semi recent Wal Mart opening netted over 4,500 job applicants in Cleveland. And our state is so deep in red ink that many of the social programs which have helped the most needy are under pressure of retooling their programs to cope with 30-50% reductions in funding.
Barbara, I am sorry to here about your situation. I wish you the best and sincerely hope that you are able to live with your husband in the same home no matter what part of the country you may end up living in.
Chronic pain is nothing to mess with and that is where many people find their start to dependence on pain killers.
At some point it becomes a question of whether ones quality of life would be better being dependent to narcotics or with extreme pain. Many doctors fear they will lose their license and are reluctant to help people that truly need pain medication.
Unfortunately many of these previous chronic pain patients are left to cope with addiction on their own when they decide or are forced to forgo the pain medication. Greater education and support to these patients is desperately needed.
Greater attention and effort needs to be made so that re-entry in society will not be a burden for ex-cons but instead supportive. Society already demonizes ex-cons and on each job application Paul will see that and I'm sure it will exhaust what hope he has in finding a job so that he can provide for himself.
Those with bad credit find their credit reports wiped clean after so many years. The same should apply for non violent criminal offenders. Unfortunately that is not the case now, and even if it were Paul would have to struggle.
I wish Paul the best and hope that he finds employment that will not only pay the bills, but give him the security he never knew before incarceration.
The power of petitions!
Let him have his day in court!
Mable actually looks pretty stylish and comfortable!
There are too few doctors and medical facilities to take care of the health care needs of Americans. This pay to play mentality must end. Everyone should have affordable access to health care. And with employers completely dropping health insurance coverage for their workers, it is more important then ever that something be done.
Those earning minimum wage would not even take home enough money to pay for a good health insurance family plan.
There needs to be a balanced approach that preserves private health insurance while providing a safety net for those that do not or can't afford it. Either way, we are paying for this now.
With the economy in such sad shape, politicians are scrambling to find creative ways to generate revenue.
Believe this or not, Ohio Governor Ted Strickland wanted the state to be able to create and operate non profit organizations!
This is very sad news. Russia is not moving in the right direction at all.
