  Just because America has banned slavery does not mean that as a country the money is "being made" on the backs of slaves.
  It would seem that our consciences are salved because the slaves that make our clothes, shoes, homewares and growour food are not visible to us. Just because we don't have to step over the little beggar girl in the street does not mean that she does not exist.
  Whilst the ideals of money as a moral indicator are noble the reality is that money is for many a metaphoric whip that makes them send their children to work so that the western world can blithely enjoy their luxury under the belief that slavery is over.
