I am fortunate enough to have a large yard in an apartment complex in Olympia Washington. My fellow neighbors and I just built a new 4000 sq. ft garden and we have about 1/4 of this space dedicated to growing food for a local food bank. We may not get to meet the people that we are donating to, but we are happy to help out people less fortunate than ourselves with our labor in our garden and hope to inspire others that have the space to grow as much food as possible.
My neighbors and I are also members of a local group in Olympia called GRUB. It is a non-profit organization that takes donations and builds gardens for low income families teaches them how to grow their own food. Fortunately residents in Olympia have space to grow food, but do not know how to, so we donate time on the weekends to help build gardens and teach valuable gardening skills by working together with our neighbors. It fosters a community mentality that is quite amazing. Thanks for the blog Greg, and it sounds like you are doing great things in Annapolis Eliza!!
