Ugh. It's seriously time to dump everyone currently involved in politics here in Arizona and just start over. Between this, dropping kids and the sick off AHCCCS and Sheriff Joe contemplating a run for Governor I've about had it. It has become FAR too right wing crazy here. We need to balance this out! Of course, that could be some highly wishful thinking on my part...
First of all, thank you to those who have offered kind words. They are appreciated.
Second, while I do not know what state my uncle was in that night regarding sobriety, I do know that it can be very difficult to defend yourself against two younger, stronger people who are beating you with baseball bats and golf clubs. It also makes it more difficult when you have pretty progressive cataracts.
Also, while I am on the fence with fully classifying it as a hate crime (some details of what happened do point more towards an opportunity crime, that is if the teens have been truthful in their statements, which leaves me on the fence) I still feel these crimes are all too common among people on the streets. Apparently it is fairly common for gang members of that area to target homeless people because they are 'easy targets' and people no one will miss. So I don't know if it's truly hate for the homeless or just 'taking advantage of opportunities'. Either way, extra protection and assistance for this segment of our population would certainly be a step in the right direction.
