  • Haiti's Homeless Are Treated Just Like America's — Badly
L commented on the article | over 1 year ago

I shudder to think what those people will do to the nasty woman who is doing dirty tricks to them.  Voodoo is very much alive and well in Haiti.  This woman is playing with fire and she is going to get burned for what she is doing to those people.  May she rest in hell for her nastyness.  She did invite them but the way she is trying to "get rid" of them is not right.

  • Where Is the (Habitat for) Humanity for the Homeless?
L commented on the article | over 1 year ago

Habitat is just a gimmick to get you to help build your own home with some help and then keep paying for it over the years.  If you are homeless of course you would not qualify - why would you think you could qualify for a "free" house?  You can't.  The homes are not "free" to homeless folks.  They are basically a doityourself home with help from volunteers and the place takes way too long to complete while you and your "deserving" family live elsewhere.  I heard all about this "wonderful" program from a woman who "got" one of these "bargains".  She was worse than unhappy to quote her.

  • Randy Quaid and His Wife Sure Seem Homeless, Even if No One's Saying So

The last movie I saw that Randy was in was a Canadian film called Real Time.  He's a very good actor but who knows just HOW he ended up homeless.  I wish the article had gone into the real reasons.  As for living in a home he once owned all I have to say is more power to you Randy.  At least you had a roof over your head and a place to sleep that was safe at night.  No one is immune to being homeless.

I forgot to mention that I DID live in a 2 bed motel room that had NO fridge for 3 months with my son.  This was during the winter as well and I was very grateful for a bed to sleep in and to be out of the cold.  I had a 2 burner hot plate and some pots and pans to cook in.  I made to.  My "fridge" was a cooler placed outside my motel room door to keep my milk cold and to keep some lunchmeat cold.  I was thankful that each night no one took either the food out of the cooler or the cooler itself!  You CAN survive if you have a hot plate.  Not having a fridge makes it harder to survive.  This woman just needs to buy a hot plate.  How hard is that?

You failed to mention that this woman with 2 kids would be eligible for Food Stamps and Aid to Dependent Families and receive food stamps and money each month!!  And this woman is not homeless - she has a roof over her head, a bed to sleep in and a fridge.  To me homeless is when you are living literally on the street or living out of your car.  That is truly homeless.  Right now this woman CAN apply for food stamps and county aid and get it as she has a "permanent mailing address" unlike the folks who live in a tent or in their car.

Why is this woman not receiving food stamps AND AFD?  Right now she IS living with a roof over her head, a bathroom, running water, fridge.  Try living in a car with NO bathroom facilities or fridge.  Not fun.  I did this for 3 months and in the dead of winter several years ago in weather that was 18 degrees or less each night.  I would have loved to at least have a roof over my head and a bed to sleep in on those very very cold nights.

  • Five Kids, One Hotel Room to Call Home

I'm sorry.  I just can't feel anything for a woman who has 5 kids.  Doesn't she know about birth control?  Why so many kids?  Also, where is her husband or the father of her kids?  Missouri is an extremely poor state and generally makes the husband or father pay dearly for his ex-family.  I feel sorry for the kids as they didn't ask to come into this world.

  • Boulder Fire Victims Somehow Less "Homeless" Than Others Without Homes
L commented on the article | over 1 year ago

If those firefighters did indeed lose their homes to the fire don't you think they had iNSURANCE on their homes?  Everyone seems to dodge the fact that those homeowners will have their homes rebuilt and they won't be perpetually homeless like other folks who lost their homes due to foreclosures.  There is a HUGE difference in losing your home to a fire versus losing your home to foreclosure.  Please.  Get real here.  Those firefighters will get their homes rebuilt or get the money from the insurance companies to rebuild the homes.  That is definitely NOT being homeless either as most home insurance policies offer such things as loss of use riders that actually will pay to house the family displaced by fire.

  • Doctor Gets Court Order to Confine Pregnant Woman Against Her Will

Maybe this woman wanted to miscarry as she might not have had the funds for an abortion.  Who knows what went thru her head other than she thought she should be able to chose if she wanted to miscarry or not.  She already had 2 other children and probably had to go to a job every day.   I really think that doctor didn't care about anything except covering his behind and possibly being sued for malpractice.  Who knows?  I think the man overstepped his bounds in ordering her to go to a hospital.  Maybe the poor woman didn't have any insurance to cover a forced hospitalization.  In this case I think that the doctor should be FORCED to pay for her entire hospital bill as it was his brainy idea to imprison her there.  That stress alone could have easily caused the miscarriage.

Doctors but out OR be forced to pay for a forced hospitalization of your patient if they don't want it.
